The Vorres Museum belongs to municipality of Paiania where is located the 3rd Primary School of Glyka Nera. «The Vorres Museum is renowned for its dual focus on Greek folk and contemporary art. The Folk Art Collection spans more than 2,000 years of Greek cultural history, featuring a wide range of objects that offer insight into Greece’s everyday life, traditions, and artistic craftsmanship. This collection includes pottery, textiles, household items, religious artifacts, and even a rare collection of medieval European furniture. The folk art section is housed in spaces that mimic traditional Greek homes, adding authenticity and immersion to the viewing experience. The design of the exhibition creates a seamless dialogue between the artifacts and the museum’s surrounding natural landscape, which includes one of the most beautiful gardens in Athens.»

The young poet Evmenis complained one day to Theocritus: «I’ve been writing for two years now and I’ve composed only one idyll. It’s my single completed work. I see, sadly, that the ladder of Poetry is tall, extremely tall; and from this first step I’m standing on now I’ll never climb any higher.» Theocritus retorted: «Words like that are improper, blasphemous. Just to be on the first step should make you happy and proud. To have reached this point is no small achievement: what you’ve done already is a wonderful thing. Even this first step is a long way above the ordinary world. To stand on this step you must be in your own right a member of the city of ideas. And it’s a hard, unusual thing to be enrolled as a citizen of that city. Its councils are full of Legislators no charlatan can fool. To have reached this point is no small achievement: what you’ve done already is a wonderful thing.»

As you set out for Ithaka

hope your road is a long one,

full of adventure, full of discovery.

Laistrygonians, Cyclops,

angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:

you’ll never find things like that on your way

as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,

as long as a rare excitement

stirs your spirit and your body.

Laistrygonians, Cyclops,

wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them

unless you bring them along inside your soul,

unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope your road is a long one.

May there be many summer mornings when,

with what pleasure, what joy,

you enter harbors you’re seeing for the first time;

may you stop at Phoenician trading stations

to buy fine things,

mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,

sensual perfume of every kind—

as many sensual perfumes as you can;

and may you visit many Egyptian cities

to learn and go on learning from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.

Arriving there is what you’re destined for.

But don’t hurry the journey at all.

Better if it lasts for years,

so you’re old by the time you reach the island,

wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,

not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.

Without her you wouldn’t have set out.

She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.

Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,

you’ll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.
