Happy Jolly Christmas

Happy Jolly Christmas

Why don’t we talk about our Christmas Activities?

This year my grade 3 students and I decided to spice things up! We came up with our own language game for some christmas vocabulary consolidation! It’s very simple you can try it with your class…

Step 1

We talked about Christmas traditions in Greece and the UK as a warm up activity and to recall some Christmas vocabulary. I explained that we were going to watch a short animation about Christmas (UK).

Step 2

We watched «Peppa’s Christmas» in English so that we revise vocabulary about toys! Then, I drew on the board the words – you can use flashcards of course – and had the students read them out loud. Then they copied these in their notebooks.

Step 3

Using a soft ball and throwing it on the board the students chose words [3 in total]. The students were aiming at a word of their choice but sometimes the ball would go on a different one but that was OK.

Step 4

Students used the 3 words and combined them with already known vocabulary from the MAGIC BOOK 2 PRE-UNIT [a/an, the, on, in, under, is, are, your, their, goes, playing, kicking, crunch, etc.] so that they produce their own sentences! When the students realised they could produce more than 1 sentences with the 3 chosen Christmas words, they were so delighted and ideas kept coming and coming… It was a blast!

Have you ever co-created a christmas language game with your students? We’d loved to see it!
