Bed-Ins for Peace

john yoko

John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono held two week-long Bed-ins for Peace, one at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam and one at Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in montreal each of which where intented to be non-violent protests against wars and experimental tests of new ways to promote peace. Their idea derived from a sit in in which a group of protesters remained seated in front of or within an establishment intil they were evicted, arrested or their demands were met.

In 1969 the marriage John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s marriage would be a huge press event. So John and Yoko decided to use the publicity to promote world peace. They spent their honeymoon in the presidential suite at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel for a week between March 25th and March 31st, inviting the world’s press into their hotel room every day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and talked in favour of world peace. Although they did not succeed in their goal they did get the press and the people’s attention

Their bed-in was made a documentary called Bed Peace.
