English language is spoken as a first language (mother tongue) by the majority populations of the United Kingdom, the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and a number of Caribbean nations. It is the third most common native language after Chinese and Spanish. It is widely learned as a second language and it is an official language of the European Union.

Modern English is the dominant language or the required international language of communications, science, information technology, business, politics and diplomacy, entertainment, computer and the Internet. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations, one the 23 official languages of the E.U. where it is the second mother tongue and the first as a foreign language.
