Children write a letter to Father Christmas with a list of all the presents they want to receive. Their parents then post the letter or send it up the chimney so Father Christmas gets it on time.
On Christmas Eve (24th December) children put out stockings under the Christmas tree or by their beds for Father Christmas to fill with presents.
