***Michael B. Jordan secured his first Oscar for his dual role in Sinners, receiving one of the loudest standing ovations of the evening.
***KPop Demon Hunters won both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (for the track «Golden»), continuing its massive cultural momentum.
***The Best Live Action Short Film category ended in a rare tie between The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva.
2026 marked a historic milestone with the introduction of the first new competitive category in 25 years: Best Casting. The first-ever gold statue for this category went to Cassandra Kulukundis, of Greek descent, for her work on Anderson’s One Battle After Another. In her acceptance speech, Kulukundis dedicated the win to casting directors who never had the opportunity to stand on the Oscar stage, specifically thanking Anderson for their decades-long collaboration. The success of the Casting award has reignited the conversation around another long-campaigned category: Best Stunts.
Finally, this year was a bit of a disappointment for Timothée Chalamet, who left empty-handed despite coming into the night as a heavy favorite. Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor for his role as ping-pong legend Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme but he lost, which became a massive talking point due to a «ballet and opera» controversy. Weeks before the ceremony, Chalamet faced backlash for suggesting in an interview that no one cares about those art forms anymore. Host Conan O’Brien even joked that security was tight due to threats from the ballet community. However, even without a win, Chalamet will be favorably remembered because at age 30 he became the youngest male actor to earn three Best Actor nominations, a record previously held by Marlon Brando since 1954. In addition, most industry insiders expect him to be back in the race soon, especially with early buzz surrounding his return to the role of Paul Atreides in Dune: Messiah (Dune: Part 3).
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the annual Awards, has announced that in three years the Oscars will leave their longtime Hollywood home and move to downtown Los Angeles, where the new venue is more than double the Dolby Theatre seat capacity. Furthermore, the show is scheduled to be streamed free on YouTube starting in 2029.
