One real-life example of a person who sacrificed their life to save others is the story of Arland D. Williams Jr. On January 13, 1982, Air Florida Flight 90 crashed into the icy Potomac River in Washington, D.C. shortly after takeoff due to poor weather conditions. The impact caused the plane to break apart and sink into the frigid waters, trapping multiple passengers. As rescue efforts were underway, Arland Williams, a 46-year-old bank examiner, found himself clinging to the wreckage along with five other survivors. A helicopter was dispatched to airlift them to safety, but due to the freezing temperatures and strong currents, the rescue was proving to be extremely challenging.
