World Thinking Day or World Scout Day, is the day that scouts around the world celebrate Robert Baden-Powell’s movement in 1907, in other words the establishment of scouting. WTD (world thinking day) is celebrated on February 22nd which is the day Baden was born (February 22nd 1857 in London). Alhough scouting was founded  in 1907 it only started getting celebrated 19 years later, in 1926. A famous saying is «A scout is a friend to everyone and a brother to a fellow scout.»(«Ο Πρόσκοπος είναι φίλος προς κάθε άνθρωπο και αδελφός προς κάθε Πρόσκοπο».) On this day, scouts from all around the world orginize many types of activities to show grattitude and send love and wishes to each and every scout. In addition, they share their visions for a better world, for peace,  for love, for friendship and the common effort from young and old people to build a united world. Some of the qualities scouting teaches are how to work with others, critical thinking, loving and protecting the inviriment, understanding different cultures, defending and promoting human rights and helping others around them.

In order for somebody to become a scout they have to make a promise, which is to make sure they are ready to do what scouting stands for. Each country’s scouts have their own promise but usually they all have the same concept. The promise scouts make is the promise to serve their country and religion and help others in need while also making sure to use the scout rules which vary around the world as well.
