Legacy versus Imitation on Popular Movies

Horror fiction is a genre which is intended to disturb and frighten the viewers, but with the rising amount of adolescents trying to scare themselves by watching these films, many aspects have become altered to fit a much broader audience. Likewise in the popular film scream in which the disturbing gore and murder become alleviated by the drama of exaggeration and use of comedy it has become popular with people of all ages and is even considered to be one of the «classics». This movie was great because, while being one of the most known “Slasher films”, it is also a perfect parody of other seemingly great horror films, since it fully jeopardizes the “traditional” scripts in which actors have to act out ridiculously over exaggerated scenes.

The original film made in 1996 gives the viewer an experience like no other. Everything from the script to the actors in the aspects of reality seen in the show really bring chills to someone’s spine. Really, the gore isn’t a huge liability, since it is humorously delivered in a way which mocks other films. This movie is much more than common horror. The exaggeration in certain facial expressions paired with the obliviousness of the characters to the events happening, poking fun at “serious” thrillers, brings about the perfect satirical drama which is exactly what this film is all about.

Since this film was such a hit it was only a matter of time before a remake was released. Most people watching the original movie, didn’t quite catch that the film wasn’t only a scary one, but a satirical interpretation and different take on other films under the same genre. Although being genuinely enjoyable, witty and fun it is easy to tell that the originality of this masterpiece was lost. Sarcastic moments of exaggeration became dull, seemingly “serious” moments of a horror film like any other, which really erased the idea of «Scream» in the first place. This downgraded the film from an entrepreneurial masterpiece to a common thriller.

On the whole I encourage horror film devotees to watch both movies and see for themselves what the dilemma regarding legacy versus imitation is all about. even though both films are really good adaptations, I believe it is fairly easy to distinguish which one is upstanding and which one is merely an okay film which fell into the trap of modern film-making instead of sticking to the original style of the first movie.

ARTISTIC GENRES. THE CONNECTION BETWEEN ART AND EMOTIONS

Artistic genres encompass a vast array of styles, forms, and expressions that reflect the multifaceted nature of human creativity. From the emotional intensity of Romanticism to the geometric precision of Cubism, each genre serves as a lens through which artists explore and communicate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The connection between art and emotions is intrinsic, as artists often draw inspiration from their emotional landscapes to create works that resonate with audiences on a deeply personal level.

One of the most prominent artistic genres, Romanticism, emerged in the late 18th century as a reaction against the rationalism of the Enlightenment era. Romantic artists sought to evoke powerful emotions through their work, often depicting sublime landscapes, turbulent scenes of nature, and intense human experiences. Painters like J.M.W. Turner captured the awe-inspiring power of nature in works such as «The Slave Ship,» where the tumultuous sea becomes a metaphor for the struggle against oppression.

Moving into the 20th century, the emergence of movements like Cubism and Surrealism challenged traditional notions of representation and reality, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Cubist painters such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque fragmented forms and perspectives, inviting viewers to engage with art in new and unconventional ways.

Surrealist artists, including Salvador Dalí and René Magritte, delved into the realm of the subconscious, exploring dreams, fantasies, and the irrational aspects of the human psyche. Dalí’s melting clocks in «The Persistence of Memory» create a surreal dreamscape where time itself seems to lose its grip, while Magritte’s «The Son of Man» confronts the viewer with the enigmatic presence of a bowler-hatted figure obscuring its own face with an apple, inviting interpretation and introspection.

Artistic genres not only serve as vehicles for individual expression but also as reflections of the cultural, social, and political contexts in which they arise. The Renaissance, for example, witnessed a revival of interest in classical antiquity and a celebration of human potential and achievement. Artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo embraced humanism, exploring the beauty and complexity of the human form in their paintings and sculptures.

In contrast, the Baroque period was characterized by grandeur, drama, and emotion, as seen in the works of artists such as Caravaggio and Rembrandt. Caravaggio’s use of chiaroscuro and intense theatricality imbued his paintings with a sense of immediacy and intensity, while Rembrandt’s masterful use of light and shadow captured the psychological depth and complexity of his subjects.

In conclusion, artistic genres encompass a diverse array of styles, forms, and expressions that reflect the rich tapestry of human experience. Whether through painting, music, literature, or performance art, artists throughout history have sought to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and stir the soul of the viewer, listener, or reader. The connection between art and emotions is profound and enduring, serving as a testament to the power of creativity to transcend boundaries and touch the deepest recesses of the human spirit.

PAOK Thessaloniki also made a great European run through the competition of UEFA Europa Conference League.More specifically the black and whites finished in the first place of their group for the first time in club’s history and advanced to the round of 16, where they faced Croatian side Dynamo Zagreb, which they eliminated and advanced to the quarter finals for the second time in three seasons.

While I enjoy all green traditions [...]

to occupy themselves with and such traditions are taken very seriously from the oldest grandma to the youngest child.

While I enjoy all green traditions the one which sticks out to me the most is one which symbolizes the beginning of spring. On the first day of March the Greeks wear a white and red bracelet made by thread which is called «Martaki». This bracelet is to be worn on one’s wrist throughout the entire month with the intention of protecting them against the extreme weather conditions of March along with avoiding getting burnt by the sun. What is really interesting about this tradition, is that it is shared among most other countries in the Balkans, tightening the already close bonds between them. Even so, this custom changes and adapts accordingly, so while wearing the bracelet is a shared action, the meaning of the bracelet changes from country to country.

This custom has its origins in ancient times and has been celebrated by generations hundreds of years before us. There is a belief that it’s s custom rooted in mythology, where the God “Sun” who came down on earth to partake in a celebration was kidnapped by a dragon and lost the ability to shine his light and radiate warmth to the world. Some adolescents fought the dragon and freed the God, and it is said that the red and white bracelet symbolizes the blood of the dragon on the snow, which then melted and created a rich soil for flowers and crops to grow. Others believe the white thread symbolizes the melting snow, while the red thread the setting sun, which is a common change in climate we witness during spring. After the bracelet is taken off so say to hang the bracelet on a tree once the first signs of spring are seen, so the swallows can take it and use it for the creation of their nests.

There really is no known origin of this tradition. What truly is mesmerizing, is how even if we are unsure of its true meaning, we have given it a new one, one of purity and anticipation of the coming of spring! I cannot imagine my childhood without me impatiently waiting for the first of March so my grandma could help me make bracelets for me and my friends, and then going to school excited to give them away. It is a custom not associated with the church, so there are really no hesitations to pay attention to if you are not of orthodox beliefs and are visiting or located in Greece!

The story of the most accomplished greek club ever: OLYMPIAKOS

Olympiacos was founded in 1925 and since then he has been one of the most feared greek clubs with exemplary performances both in football and basketball.

The accomplishes of olympiacos fc track back to 1931 when they won their first greek super ligue, only 6 years after their creation. Since then olympiacos has lifted the greek super ligue 47 more times, with the last one being only a few years back in 2022. Although all those trophys are enough to seal a place in the hall of fame of greece, olympiacos fc did not stop there, he also went on to win 28 greek cups with the last one being in 2020 with a comfortable 0-1 win against AEK fc in the final.

Despite his success in greece, olympiacos was not fortunate enough to carry that same success on to the european competitions with his greatest placement up to date being a quarterfinal in the champions league. These past few years olympiacos has had a rough patch in both greece and europe with a lot of coaches coming in and out of the club without making any impact.

Thankfully this bad period of time for the olympiakos fans might be coming to an end with jose luis medilibar, the former coach of sevilla, taking a place on the bench of olympiacos.

Since the signing of coach medilibar, olympiacos has made an insane comeback on the greek super ligue with him only being a few points of the top, not to mention olympiacos’ insane european run with him knocking out teams such as Aston villa and fenerbahce in the uefa conference ligue to make it to the final of the competition, where he will face fiorentina in his home city Athens. The appearance of olympiacos in the uecl final will be the first time we see a greek team compete in a european competition final after 53 years.

In spite of the incredible performance of the senior team of olympiakos in europe, the amazing performace of the olympiacos u-19 squad should be taken into appreciation, with the youth team of olympiacos winning the first european trophy for a greek team with a 3-0 win over the milan youth team on the final of the UYL competition.

As I mentioned prior olympiakos is not only a successful football club but he has dominated in many other sports such as basketball, volleyball and others and with a recent championship of the olympiacos water polo team, olympiacos was crowned the most decorated club across all the sports worldwide with a staggering 310 trophies.

Also one deciding factor on all those championships has been the support that olympiacos has been getting from his fans, which have been voted one of the most passionate fan groups of all time .

To sum up, olympiacos will go down as one of the most accomplished and decorated clubs to ever exist as the club seems to be moving forward every year without looking back at any upsets it finds on its way.

Introduction

The ecological footprint of cotton t-shirt production is a critical aspect of the fashion industry. This presentation aims to assess the environmental impact of cotton tshirt production and explore potential solutions to reduce its ecological footprint.

COTTON CULTIVATION

Cotton cultivation involves extensive use of water, pesticides, and fertilizers. The environmental impact of cotton cultivation extends to soil degradation and water pollution, making it a significant contributor to the ecological footprint of cotton tshirt production.

GARMENT PRODUCTION

The garment production phase involves cutting, sewing, and finishing processes, each of which contributes to the ecological footprint. Waste generation, energy consumption, and transportation emissions are key factors to consider in assessing the environmental impact of cotton t-shirt production.

CONSUMER BEHAVIOR

Understanding consumer behavior is essential in evaluating the ecological footprint of cotton t-shirt production. Factors such as fast fashion, overconsumption, and disposal habits significantly impact the environmental sustainability of cotton t-shirt production.

How to live more sustainably and buy more ethical clothing

Everyone cares about the environment… deeply inside. But when it comes to action we don’t know where to start. Clothing is an essential part of our lives and can adapt to any style we want to follow. But sometimes we cross the line. We invent more and more fashion trends too fast and thus , more and more clothing is produced in no time. This harms our environment and eventually us ourselves. Here is what we can do to fix it ! We can live more sustainably and choose more ethical clothing! Wait a minute-what?! Yes we can do it! It is not completely easy but not completely hard!

The main environmental disaster is the contamination of water with bleaches, acids, inks and dyes that come from mass production factories. This then has a negative effect on agriculture, as the contaminated water is absorbed by the fields. In fast fashion there are often inappropriate working conditions due to profiteering.

No matter how overwhelming it seems to be ,there is a solution to this huge problem that affects us all by making the right purchases. But you will ask us how this will be possible? You can start by buying clothes from local shops, supporting the local economy and local shops. It is good to check the product labels to ensure its ethics. On the labels you can find the materials from which the product was made. It is good to avoid clothes that are made of petroleum and chemicals. Also, if at some point an item of clothing suffers a damage that can be repaired, it would be good not to throw it away but to try either we or someone else to repair it. Finally, one more solution is the opportunity shops (op-shops), which sell second-hand clothes for charity funds.

Art therapy: Healing through creation

In a society, where words are frequently insufficient, art provides a special tool of self-expression and healing. It has the unique ability to convey emotions, tell stories and offer protection when needed. Art therapy, is not only able to improve mental health and well-being, but also offers a pathway to healing and personal growth for people of all ages.

Art therapy, provides a great variety of benefits for people, that are occupied with it. First of all, it reduces stress, because engaging in art-making can be a therapeutic escape from the pressures of daily life. Moreover, art therapy encourages people to immerse themselves in the creative process, promoting relaxation and mindfulness.

Another important advantage of this kind of art, is the self-exploration and discovery of ourselves. Art therapy, is a journey of uncovering our true selves, understanding our desires, fears and aspiration. Through self-reflection, we gain insight into who we are and what matters to us.

Last but non least, art is a universal language, and it offers a non-verbal way for expressing overwhelming emotions. So, if someone finds it challenging to put their feelings into words, through art, they can externalize their inner struggles.

To sum up, art therapy offers a powerful and transformative approach to healing, providing individuals with a creative outlet for self-expression, exploration and growth. As more people recognize that, it will gain the proper acceptance and appreciation.

Advocating for Animal Rights in Cosmetics Production

The cosmetic industry has long been under scrutiny for its use of animal testing in product development. Despite advancements in technology and the availability of alternative testing methods, many companies still resort to cruel practices that involve animals. This project aims to shed light on the ethical issues surrounding animal testing in cosmetics production and advocate for the rights of animals to live free from harm and exploitation.

Animal testing in cosmetics production involves subjecting animals, such as rabbits, mice, and guinea pigs, to painful experiments to assess the safety and efficacy of cosmetic ingredients and finished products. These tests can cause immense suffering to animals, including skin irritation, organ damage, and even death. Despite widespread public opposition and growing regulatory restrictions, animal testing remains prevalent in many parts of the world

METHODS

Research: Conduct a comprehensive review of literature and case studies related to animal testing in the cosmetics industry, including its historical context, current practices, and ethical implications.

Awareness Campaign: Develop educational materials, such as brochures, infographics, and social media posts, to inform the public about the realities of animal testing and promote cruelty-free alternatives.

Advocacy: Collaborate with animal rights organizations, advocacy groups, and policymakers to push for legislative measures that ban or restrict animal testing for cosmetics.

Consumer Engagement: Encourage consumers to make informed purchasing decisions by providing them with resources to identify cruelty-free brands and products.

Animal testing in cosmetics production is a practice that contradicts the principles of compassion and ethical responsibility. By advocating for animal rights and promoting cruelty-free alternatives, we can create a future where beauty products are developed without causing harm to innocent creatures. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of animals and build a more ethical and compassionate cosmetics industry.
