Journalist: How old were you when you came to Greece?
Amina: I was 14 years old when I came to Greece. (Κυριάκος)
Journalist: Why did you come to Greece?
Amina: I came to Greece because there was war in my country and it was no longer safe for me and my family to stay there. We were really afraid and we had no other choice but to leave home. (Νεφέλη)
Journalist: What did you know about Greece before coming here?
Amina: Before coming to Greece, I didn’t know much. I knew it was in Europe and near the sea. I had also heard that the Greek people were kind, hospitable and that Greece was a safe place. (Κατερίνα)
Journalist: What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Amina: I don’t give up easily; indeed, one of my biggest strengths is resilience. Yet, sometimes I find it hard to trust people; I feel shy, vulnerable and I am scared of the unknown. (Αθηνά, Βαϊτσα, Μαρία, Όλγα)
Journalist: What do you want to do in Greece?
Amina: I want to learn Greek, finish school and maybe go to University. I hope one day I can work and help my family have a better future. (Δημήτρης)
Journalist: Can you share with us any examples of racism that you have experienced?
Amina: At first, nobody wanted to hang out with me. Once I was treated like a thief in a supermarket whilst many had been using slurs on me because of my skin colour. (Δήμητρα, Νικολέτα, Σοφία)
Journalist: What are you afraid that will happen to you if you go back to your country?
Amina: I am afraid that if I go back, I may get hurt or even killed. The war is still going on and there is no safety or stability. I am also afraid of being forced to join armed groups or lose my freedom. There is no opportunity to live a normal life. (Χριστίνα)
Journalist: How can I help you?
Amina: You can help me by treating me with respect and kindness. I want a chance to study and do my best for a better tomorrow. (Χριστίνα)
