Easter Sunday is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Christ. In the U.K., it is common to organize Easter egg hunts and get together with friends and family. There are many non-religious traditions linked to Easter Sunday in the U.K. just like in most other western countries such as the U.S.A, Canada and Australia. People give each other Easter eggs and Easter Bunnies or hollow plastic or cardboard eggs filled with candy. Eggs are not only associated with Easter because it occurs in spring, but also dryed eggs are part of Christian Easter History. Egg hunts, a traditional Easter game where game where children try to find hidden Easter eggs take place all over the U.K. In some areas in the North of England there is the habit of egg rolling. People take the eggs on top of a hill and roll them down. The first egg to get to the foot of that hill is the winner. In another variation of the game, people knock hard-boiled eggs against other people’s eggs. In some parts of Scotland, fondant-filled chocolate eggs about the size of a hen’s egg are covered in batter and deep-fried.
