The pedagogical value and reflection on the Erasmus+ trip to Berlin for the 6th Junior High School of Larissa

The participation of the 6th Junior High School of Larissa in the Erasmus+ program with Berlin as its destination constituted a fundamental educational milestone, transcending the boundaries of a traditional visit abroad. This initiative was not limited to the days spent in the German capital; rather, it was a comprehensive pedagogical process that began with preparatory research and culminates now with the creative processing of our experiences.

The significance of Erasmus+ lies in its ability to transform students into active citizens of Europe. Through their cooperation with the Otto-Wels-Grundschule, our children came into contact with a different school reality, cultivated their intercultural awareness, and developed critical skills such as foreign language communication, teamwork, and adaptability. The thematic pillars of sustainability, historical memory, and technological evolution, which were explored in Potsdam, the Holocaust Memorial, and the Futurium, provided stimuli rarely encountered within a traditional classroom environment.

An invaluable part of this journey was the active involvement of our students in project creation. Prior to the trip, the teams worked on the history and culture of their destination, while upon their return, they transformed their insights and knowledge into original material. These projects are not merely a record of memories, but proof of a deep understanding of the core values advocated by the European Union: unity, respect for diversity, and sustainable development.

In order to share this wealth of experience and creativity with the wider school community, we have gathered the children’s work on a digital bulletin board (Padlet). We invite you to browse through their projects, which reflect their enthusiasm, broadened perspective, and the new outlook with which they now view the world.

Warm congratulations to all participating students, to the Principal, Mr. Vasilios Papamargaritis, for the coordination, as well as to the teachers, Ms. Aikaterini Mantzorou and Ms. Efthymia Zacharaki, for their valuable guidance throughout this journey of knowledge and self-awareness.
