Igor Sikorsky

People call Igor Sikorsky «the father of helicopter».

He was born in 1889 in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. When he was a schoolboy, he really liked building model aircraft and helicopters. Later, he studied in Russia and Paris. After he finished university, he managed to build the world’s first multi-engine aircraft. In 1919, after the Russian Revolution, he emigrated to the U.S.A. His money was running out, so he started teaching Russian immigrants Mathematics, Astronomy, and Aviation. After that, he worked as an aircraft designer. In 1923, he started an aeronautical company, the Sikorsky Aeronautical Engineering Corporation. Finally, between 1925 and 1940, he created a series of increasingly successful aircraft, including the first helicopter. He died in 1972 in the U.S.A.

The Sikorsky aircraft corporation continues to the present day as one of the world’s leading helicopter manufactures. ????
