Pride and prejudice -a student’s outlook

Μy decision to start reading classical books during quarantine was one of the best. As a child I loved books and I always found a feeling of comfort while reading. However this past few months I stopped reading and I could never finish a book when I started. So, when we went into quarantine for the second time I decided to do something more creative rather than always seating in front of a screen and I made a bet to myself that I would finish at least one book. I consider my self lucky that Pride and Prejudice caught my eye because this book made me fall in love with reading all over again.

I’d read Pride and Prejudice years before  and I remember enjoying it but as the time passed I forgot about it and when I read it again it felt like I was reading it again for the first time. While when I was younger I focused in the romance, the plot line and the unique time period that the book unfolds, while rereading it  I was intrigued by different things. Instead of thinking the characters as unerring and perfect I noticed their flaws and fell in love with them and started understanding their perspectives and their refusal to settle with the norm that society forced on them.

Pride and Prejudice is a romantic novel by Jane Austin, published anonymously in three volumes in 1813. It has inspired many stage and screen productions.

Pride and Prejudice follows the turbulent relationship between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich aristocratic landowner. They must overcome the titular sins of pride and prejudice in order to fall in love and marry.

Teenagers of our age were asked about their opinion on the book and they all agreed that the book was  really good.

I have a very long history with this novel. My first encounter with it was back at elementary school when I was given a graphiic novel about it, but I read the whole book years later during summer to improve my vocabulary. I really enjoyed it. Everything about it was glorious , filled with brilliant dialogs and beautiful descriptions. It was certainly one of my most enjoyable readings and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

I personally enjoyed the refusal of the characters to become subjects to the desires of their parents as well as the public opinion and Elizabeth’s original refusal to a marriage she thought she would be unhappy in .Also, I liked Darsy’s change of character towards the end.

Pride and Prejudice is in my opinion a joyful romantic book. I found it particularly interesting due to how great the characters are described as, how the plot develops and I could say that the end was pretty satisfying.
