The Rijeka carnival takes place every year between the end of January and March in the town of Rijeka in the Adriatic cοast.

About a century ago Rijeka lived carnival more intensively than any other town in this part of the country. Carnival parades were organized, which were impressive and carnival balls with the presence of Austrians and Hungarian aristocrats, Russian princes and of German barons, courtesans and countesses from all over the Europe.

The revival of the Rijeka carnival began in 1982. It has become the biggest carnival in Croatia.
