May 24th has been declared as the day for the

protection of natural parks and started in 1909 in

Sweden. Then the example was followed by other

European countries and now there are national

parks all over Europe.The example of Sweden was

gradually followed by other European countries,

with the result that today the number of European

national parks amounts to 359, a number that is

constantly increasing.The national parks of

Europe include mountains, lakes, rivers, islands,

forests,wetlands, where many different species of

plants and animals live, many of them threatened

with extinction.
