International Museum Day has been established to be celebrated by

the International Council of Museums every year on 18 May with the aim of

strengthing education, promoting mutual understanding, peace and

cooperation among people. On the occasion of the celebration, the Greek

Depertment of ICOM organiges during the month of May various cultural

events throughout Greece. It also honors one or more Greek

museums every year, where the central event of the celebration takes place.
