Prologue
The air was cold in the MosaicClan nursery, smelling faintly of pine trees and earth as the air poured down on the dry soil.
“ShimmerStream!” meowed a drenched blue and white striped she-cat as she hurried into the nursery through the vine entrance. Her fur clung to her body, dripping onto the soft grass below.
“I hope i’m not too late!” she panted.
“No, you’re not late” ShimmerStream meowed to her friend.
“Oh my, what a beautiful kit! May StarClan give him health!” she meowed as she shook off the water from her pelt and approached the beautiful spangled queen and her colourful kit.
“SparklePelt…” the queen started. “I don’t know if I’m going to be a good mother to this kit…” she sighed and looked away.
“Oh ShimmerStream… Don’t worry” SparklePelt pressed her muzzle to her friends flank comfortingly. «It will all be alright, you’ll see” she cooed “right now what’s important is the name of your kit” she mewed changing the subject.
“…You’re right…” ShimmerStream agreed. “I think I’ll name him MosaicKit… he looks just like his father…. StainedStar..” she meowed as her tail curled around the small colourful wiggling shape.
The velvety moss wall from the adjacent part of the nursery started to make noise, and out walked a beautiful tortoiseshell pastel blue and yellow she-cat with beautiful amber eyes.
“Now, this oughtta get you back into shape” she said softly as she dropped a couple of chervil roots and raspberry leaves infront of ShimmerStream. “Why, hello SparklePelt” she softly meowed.
“Hello MelodyFur. Ive come here to see how ShimmerStream is doing” she mewed
“She’s going to be fine, but just to be sure StainedStar ordered me from now on to take extra measures, well since the clans population isn’t what it used to be let me tell you that…” her voice lowered in pitch and her expression darkened a bit, she turned her head towards ShimmerStream and for a moment it seemed that her usual attitude was back. “So, just chew these and you’ll be fine, I’ll be in my den if you need anything” she said as she padded off back to her den which she came from.
