The preschool years are a crucial period in a child’s development, marked by rapid growth and exploration. Among the many facets of development during this stage, emotional growth holds paramount importance. Understanding and nurturing emotional development in preschool-aged children lays a sturdy foundation for their future well-being and success. One of the main pillars of the kindergarten program is the promotion of children’s social development. In this context, we decided to design a game with the children whose goal was to talk about our feelings, to describe them and then to recognize them.
To design the game, we proceeded as follows:
- We read to our pupils the fairy tale «The color monster » by Anna Lennas.
- Every partner picked a different emotion.
- We created with our pupils the emotion card. We painted, maked collages and tried other techniques.
- We took a photo of our card and uploaded it to a shared file.
- We printed the cards in A5 size and played the game in our classes.
- A child wears a hat on his head and we fix the cards on top. The rest of the children are in line. The first child describes the emotion shown by the card and the child wearing the hat tries to guess the emotion. If he/she does not succeed, the next child comes and makes another description for the same card. When some child finds the feeling, we change cards and play with a different feeling.
