November
by Ruby Archer
Our twilight month November is,
The evening of the year.
The brilliant summer noontide left
A pallor soft and clear.
Dame Winter brings with quiet grace
Her curtains all of snow,
And pins them deftly into place
With boughs of mistletoe.
The Calf of the November Cloud by Hilary Ruben (Author)
Konyek, a Masai boy, herds and guards his father’s cattle – especially the Calf of the November Cloud who is the favourite. When warriors attack, leaving him wounded and his cattle stolen, Konyek must set out to recover the stolen animals and clear his name of cowardice.

December Snow
by William Belcher Glazier
Fall thickly on the rose-bush,
O faintly falling snow!
For she is gone who trained its branch,
And wooed its bud to blow.
Cover the well-known path-way,
O damp December snow,
Her step no longer lingers there,
When stars begin to glow.
Melt in the rapid river,
O cold and cheerless snow!
She sees no more its sudden wave,
Nor hears its foaming flow.
Chill every song-birds music,
O silent, sullen snow!
I cannot hear her loving voice,
That lulled me long ago.
Sleep on the Earth’s broad bosom,—
O heavy, winter snow!
Its fragrant flowers and blithesome birds
Should with its loved one go.
Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic…and then her bus drives away. Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they «reunite» at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be. What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.
