CORFU
Corfu is a Greek island in the Ionian sea. The island is a popular tourist
destination. The first Greek University, the Ionian Academy, the first philharmonic and
the first school of Fine Arts in Greece were founded in Corfu.
It earns the title “countess of the Ionian’ with its numerous monuments, the
picturesque settlements with the Enetic architecture and the local delicacies! The sights
you can visit are the Archaeological Museum,the old Fortress,the Spianada and
Liston Square, the Kanoni, the Achilleion Palace, the Angelokastro, the Mon Repo
and others.
Corfu has a big number of churches. Saint Spyridon is the patron saint of the city. It is
worth visiting the island during Easter to see the local customs of the Holy Week. After
the Resurrection follows the breaking of the large clay jugs.
It’s one of the most beatiful islands of Greece.
