Summer Olympics was started in 1896 like the original Olympic Games in Athens. The summer Olympic games are organised every 4 years. The next will be in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. There are many different sport events: from archery to gymnastics.
The second modern Olympic Games were between 6th and 15th of April in 1896. They was revived by Pierre de Coubertin. The Greeks were did not have enough experience in sport so was hard to set up. There was not enough money, but Jeórjosz Avérof who was from Alexandria donated plenty of money to make the Olympic Games successful. The first champion got only a silver medal. He was James B. Connolly in hop step and jump. An interesting fact about his participation: he left America for Greece on a German freighter, the Barbarossa, along with most of the rest of the first American Olympic team. After arriving in Naples, Italy he was robbed and almost lost his ticket to Athens. He managed to retrieve it only after a pursuit against the robber. Finally he took the train to Athens, arriving there just in time for the Games.
Only 14 Nations participated in those games. There were 7 men from Hungary. The biggest number of participants were from Greece: 186 men. From Hungary 2 people got gold medals, 1 person got silver medal and 3 people got bronze medal for their performance. The people from Hungary got 2 gold medals in swimming, one silver and two bronze in athletics and one bronze in tennis.
