A day in Euroscola
A delegation of students from our school from the Third to the Second grade traveled to the hard core of the decisions of the European Union, Strasbourg. There, among 500 school pupils from the 27 member states of the union, they exchanged views and ideas ,expressed their concerns, and proposed solutions for a more sustainable future of prosperity and unity. The main objective of the program’s mechanism is the direct contact of adolescents with decision-making as well as the realistic approach to European diversity through discussion and dialogue with people from different countries, familiarisation with the functioning of the European institutions, awareness of the role they will be called upon to play in the future organisation of Europe as voters or as MEPs. Young people through the program are encouraged to realise the need to defend their democracy and fundamental rights through their active participation in civic and political life.
The day started early in the morning where in the parliament restaurant along with breakfast they explained to us in detail the schedule of the meeting. Then we headed to the Louise Weiss Chamber Room (commonly known as hemicycle) where we immediately understood that at that moment we were right in the cradle of the union’s vital political decisions. Then, in the presence of two representatives of euroscola, the Vice-President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala, and MEP Delphine Collard FR, we expressed our questions and concerns about disinformation in the media and social media. Special guest at the conference, YouTuber Adam bros in turn gave answers to disinformation issues in his own professional field
At 12 o’ clock, we had lunch with a group of teenagers from different countries where individually each of us presented some characteristics of their country. So we realised that although we come from different countries we are members of a common union, the European Union.
The afternoon program was followed by an innovation workshop with a lesson on how to vote in realistic voting scenarios as well as useful information about the debate process. An administrator of the parliament closed the session following the sound of the European anthem inside the Louise Weiss Chamber Room . We all left with unique memories that will follow us for a lifetime but at the same time we were full of hope that future European political decisions will adopt our ideas and aspirations for the European ideal of unity and Concord among the Member States.
