First years

  • He was born on 8 March 1907 in Serres
  • He was studied law at National And Kapodistrian University of Athens
  • He married Amalia Megapanou on 1951
  • He practiced law until 1936 his election to the Hellenic Parliament in 1936 as a member of the conservative People’s Party.
  •  In 1951 Karamanlis become the minister of public work the government Papagou
  • Ιn 1956 founded EPE and later became the new Prime Minister of Greece

1974-1998

  •  on July 24, 1974 Karamanlis returned from Paris and took over as prime minister after 7 years of dictatorship
  • Ιn 1974 he won the Greek election with 54,2%
  • Ιn 1974 he founded New Democracy where he acted as leader for 6 years
  • Ηeld a referendum in 1974 which established democracy
  • In 1977 we won again the Greek elections
  • in 1979 it signed the EΟΚ accession agreement

Τerm as president of the republic

  • on May 5, 1980 he was elected president of the republic for the first time

  • He was re-elected to the highest office of the country in the five years 1990-1995, when he left politics

  • He had completed 60 years in the political spotlight: 8 years as a minister, 14 as prime minister and 10 as President of the Hellenic Republic.

  • Konstantinos Karamanlis passed away at the age of 91, on April 23, 1998.
