A Few Things About Ancient Greece

  αγωνεςNowadays,   Greece is recognized as one of the most important and impressive countries  and is  known for its high-used greek inventions. The Greek inventions are a lot ; many are  ancient ones and plenty  are  new ones.  Since the beginning   of its history Greece  has  invented  many things , starting  from  small things such as oil lamps ,which were made  of clay or copper  and were used for light , to  the strigil which was a small curved metal   used by ancien Greekt athletes  to remove  the  oil, sweat  and dust from their skin after training or races.

One major event in  Ancient Greece  which still remains outstanding and spectacular  are the “Olympic Games” which even nowadays are the most well-known sports competition worldwide. Olympic Games are a huge competition-event in which every athlete from all over the world  can participate .  There  are many different kinds of sports , such as soccer ,  basketball  , shooting ,  fencing, track sports and many more. Besides in Ancient Greece the winner used to win a wild olive brunch instead of trophies or medals which are used for the awards nowdays. Moreover another Greek creation is the ability of writing as the Greeks invented the alphabet which was first introduced in Ancient Greek and during the Byzantine empire the Greeks made the Cyrillic one too . Moreover,   Greece is the birthplace of  mythology . Ancient Greeksbelieved in the 12 Gods  of  Mount Olympus, which is the highest mountain in Greece . Greek mythology  inspired hundreds  of  stories  and  events  that  affected the lives of simple people.   Some of these stories are even taught   to Greek schools.

Furthermore,  Greece is  the country that  gave birth to   philosophy, astronomy, architecture and democracy .  Ideals such as equality of all people , the notion  of freedom,  free spirit,  bravery  were born in Ancient Greece.  All countries around the world  were influenced by the Greek  ideals and principles  and the message of Greek civilisation spread worldwide.

In addition , Ancient  Greeks  were pioneers in the field of trading. They built large ships  and travelled   across  the Aegean  Sea  ,the  Ionian  sea   and the Black Sea . They   exchanged goods with other people of the Mediterranean Sea and  created their own nomismatic system. Ancient Greeks   have always been  present to any new developments concerning technology,  medicine, architecture and engineering.

To sum up , Greece has always been the guiding light  that helps humanity move on.
