            An eight-year-old troublemaker must protect his house from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation.

The Mc Callister family is preparing to spend Christmas in Paris. Kevin, their youngest son accidentally ruins the family dinner, resulting in him getting sent to the attic of the house as a punishment. The next morning they rush to get to the airport but Kevin is accidentally left behind. Kate realizes mid-flight that Kevin is home alone, and upon arrival in Paris, the family discovers that all flights back to the United States for the next two days are booked. Kevin at first is very happy to be alone but soon overhears two burglars, Harry and Marv, discussing plans to break into his house that night. Kevin starts to miss his family but returns home and rigs the house with several booby traps to take on the burglars who suffer various injuries and finally get arrested before Kevin’s family is back.
