Οι παρακάτω επιστολές γράφτηκαν από  μαθητές του 27 ^ου ΓΕ. Λ, στο πλαίσιο επιμέρους δραστηριότητας του Ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος Etwinning 2019-2020, “The Odyssey of Words” όπου οι μαθητές κλήθηκαν να γράψουν γράμματα σε Ευρωπαίους Ηγέτες χρησιμοποιώντας λέξεις  με ρίζες από την Αρχαία Ελληνική γλώσσα που έχουν περάσει στη Λατινική και έπειτα στην Αγγλική γλώσσα. Η δραστηριότητα εμπνεύστηκε από την περίφημη ομιλία του Ξενοφώντα Ζολώτα το 1959 προς Ευρωπαίους  πολιτικούς και οικονομολόγους χρησιμοποιώντας εξ ολοκλήρου ελληνικές λέξεις που έχει δανειστεί η αγγλική γλώσσα.

TOPIC:CLIMATE CRISIS

Dear Mr.President,

     It is extremely dramatic to observe such a biblical catastrophe that climate crisis has brought to our cosmos. And all of that is due to our egoistic actions. We live in a society of anthropomorphisms that have adopted the ideology of constantly wanting more materials while showing complete apathy about whether we end up destroying our own bioreserve, in order to achieve that. The epoch of living in total harmony, sooner or later, will come to an end; people will now have to agonize through a plethora of catastrophes such as pandemics, epidemics, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, toxic air pollution and earthquakes. In the meanwhile feelings like nostalgia will overwhelm polluted metropolises, reminding things like ocean’s aroma, being able to swim, blue skies, clean atmosphere and in general living in eudemonia.

     However, there is still some hope left of tackling this mega ecological crisis. It is high time you changed your idiosyncrasy, accept the problem and energize by setting up policies and organizations to help raise awareness, clean up ecosystems, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, use mostly biodegradable materials and focused less on the auxesis of economic growth.

TOPIC: RACISM

Dear Mr President,

    In our epoch, the phenomenon of racism has created a paradoxical phobia against people of different ethnicities spread as a pandemia to European citizens who are meant to support the thesis of democracy. The presumably threatening physiognomy of heterogeneity sinks people, as a cataclysm, in the abyss of misanthropy leading them into an ideological psychopathy. On further analysis, some hypocrites use propaganda so as not to let people awake of the lethargy of fanaticism.

     In synopsis, what should be done to convert the paranoic xenophobia into sympathy, the chaos into what seems a utopia? European dialogue can prove that this enigma is not impossible to be solved, but a Minoan labyrinth in which we have to follow Ariadne’s thread and beat the xenophobic monster inside us.

Topic: EDUCATION

Dear European Presidents,

I would like to address the theme of pedagogy which seems pathogenic all over Europe, as it focuses mainly on market-centred ideologies.

I am of the belief that measures should be taken so the pedagogical methods become more student-centred. Students should be given a plethora of career options to choose from, so that all individual idiosyncrasies or artistic tendencies get revealed. Furthermore, students should be given the opportunity to prioritize on subjects that they are mostly interested in. No one has the right to force them to go through the agony of an examination system that is not capable of evaluating their true talents and inclinations. Instead, their overall abilities should be judged by alternative ways such as written thesis or critical thinking tests.

Topic: POVERTY

Dear European Presidents,

     The Europe of today goes through a barbaric situation, no matter how many economic measures are being taken. In each and every corner of the countries with a view to the European horizon there is a pathogenic tendency for social inequity. Statistics indicate that citizens of the bottom-most and lower class economic levels are many more in numbers, compared to the few «aristocrats» of our Union. I think it’s a paradox, living in a community where if all the money was equally distributed, people would cherish a life that now seems phenomenal to them. You need to change your strategy for the catholic excellence! We need a more philanthropic society. In order to achieve this seemingly utopian idea, we have to take more practical steps! We have to encourage the richest to take the initiative to donate to charities! We also should tax individuals based on their income and property. Let’s show empathy to the weak too and not sympathize just with the ones that may benefit us. This won’t cost anyone anything! Why should the weak pay the cost for everything?
